1. There was a beginning
The name’s Stefano, though everyone calls me Nightwind. Yes, there’s a reason for that, and it’s lost to most memories but the few folk that survived with me through the Last War. That’s right, I’m a veteran of the dark days that tore our galaxy apart. We lost so much, and gained so little, if we gained anything at all. All we’re left with is this ravaged galaxy.
After the wars I tried my hands at a few different things. I even tried to be carpenter at one point. Nothing took, nothing lasted. Nobody wanted a twitchy man with my skillset kicking around; and given my skillset I can’t afford to lose control. It occurred to me that the best thing I could do was to get myself a ship and take to the stars. I could put together a crew, live free on the fringes, as long as I could avoid the pirate fleets.
There was a guy I knew from my travels, an old Rogue that would wander through the same region as me every once in a while, says they call him Starburn. I asked if it’s because he couldn’t get them to stop. He fancies himself a ladies man, a gambler, a wanderer. Never wanted to settle in one place, always talking about his next big score, wheelin’ and dealin’. The whole thing.
He once joked to me that if I ever put a crew together, he’d sign on, but only as my first mate. He also joked that the reason for that was to grab my ship and stash the moment I perished. Good times. I looked him up the other day. Turns out he’s nearby, hitching a ride through this deity cursed water moon I’m fishing on. Going to see if he was serious about that first mate thing. It’s time to get back to doing what I’ve always done best. Moving forward, gun in hand, fight in the future.
I’ve got a some creds stashed away. The last of my, well, let’s call it ‘earnings’ from the Last War. Figure I’ll pick myself up a ship, sign on Starburn, put together a decent crew and head on out there. With some luck, we’ll able to find some more ‘earnings’.
